Puerto Vallarta & Riviera Nayarit

The beaches between Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit offers beach and sun lovers the whole gamut of options from relaxed exclusive hideaways, golf courses and sleepy fishing villages to authentic Mexican seaside village turned resort and party town. Regardless, there are many luxurious hotels and resorts here that provide for those seeking some Mexican culture and party lifestyle with their beach holiday, or for those that prefer a little more seclusion and relaxation. The Nayarit coastline stretches more than 300km north from Puerta Vallarta but the exclusive beach resorts of Punta Mita are just about 40 minutes away from Puerto Vallarta, thereby offering you both the choice of relaxation in some of the most exclusive resorts to partying resort town-style all on the same day.
Banderas Bay which is located in the southern section of the Riviera Nayarit is also a great place watch humpback whales leaping and performing a breach out as they pass by on their migration. You can witness this unmatched natural spectacle either from the boat or the mainland from December to March each year. Further down the Banderas Bay you will encounter Puerto Vallarta, which used to be small fishing village before the famous movie “The Night of the Iguana” which stared Richard Burton who had an affair with Liz Taylor at the time. This affair and the movie put Puerto Vallarta on the touristic map worldwide.
Puerto Vallarta’s is best known for its seaside promenade called Malecón which runs from the Romantic Zone to the start of the Hotel Zone which is home to several bars and restaurants and has a vibrant nightlife. In addition, Puerto Vallarta offers a wide variety of Art that goes from the streets to amazing galleries around downtown; enjoy the Puerto Vallarta Art – Walk Season every Wednesday until May 30th.
Puerto Vallarta is wildly considered as the Mexico´s most popular “winter” destination thanks to its diversity and almost perfect climate and home to golden beaches, mountains and jungles.
In contrast, if you prefer to experience sleepy Mexican villages that have retained a lot more of their authentic style, you don’t need to go far than the northern end of Punta Mita where there are a number of villages you can visit including Sayulitas, a short distance from the luxurious and secluded St Regis and Four Season resorts there. Punta Mita also boasts some of the best luxury golf courses of Latin America, including at these two resorts.
